Revolutionaries rejoice! Cameron Mackintosh’s stage musical ‘Les Miserables’ is set to return to Australia next year!
The British Cameron Mackintosh confirmed this morning that his new 25th anniversary production of Les Mis would be re-staged with an all-Australian cast at Melbourne's Her Majesty's Theatre from June 2014 – but, Hugh Jackman won’t be in it!
Jackman just played Jean Valjean in the Tom Hooper film adaptation of the production, yet Cameron revealed "No, Hugh won't (be cast). There'd be no reason for him to do it; and he's busy with his other projects."
"I'd love to get Hugh back on the stage doing something, but it wouldn't be Jean Valjean. The stage show and the film are completely different things, even though they complement each other."

He also added that the Australian production would be part of a larger global tour, taking in Canada, America, Japan and South Korea - and that it will probably tour around the country, after opening in Melbourne.
"At the moment, I'm concentrating only on the initial season, but I'm sure it will branch out to other cities," he said.
Tickets will go on sale in October this year, for a June 2014 opening.
