Wish I'd Said That at Ipswich Civic Centre

Mother & Son star returns to Ipswich in a wonderful one man show!

Henri Szeps stars in his latest one-man show, the touching and hilarious, 'Wish I'd Said That', which proves that ‘all the world may be a stage' but not everyone is a star.

Joe Bleakley is a 'retired' actor who reached for the stars but never got much further than mediocrity. Forced into the Foggadieu Retirement Village by his daughter Valerie, Joe decides that he will stage a performance for the other residents and puts together a selection of his favourite speeches from some of the great roles he never got to play.

Throughout the course of the show, we are treated to excerpts from 'King Lear', 'Teahouse of the August Moon', and nuggets of wisdom from Neil Simon, Eugene O'Neill and Oscar Hammerstein II. In between we learn of Joe's troubled relationship with his daughter, his two failed marriages and his disappointment at never having quite 'made it' as an actor. All peppered with humorous anecdotes, jokes, songs and observations about life, family and getting older.

John Waters "Looking Through A Glass Onion"

The National Tour of “Looking Through A Glass Onion” commenced in November 2010 at the Sydney Opera House, with a sell out 2 week season the production quickly extended throughout 2011 taking in over 30,000 ticket sales nationally to be the ‘highest selling Australian Artist tour in 2011”.

“Its been fantastic the response the show is receiving, especially from the younger audiences that are coming along, some of whom were not even born when Lennon and The Beatles were recording and releasing their music, it’s a testament to the legacy of the man and his music that still excites and intrigues people to this day” says Waters. A homage to the music, mystery and memory of John Lennon.

Lion King Stage Show to Return to Sydney

The Lion King will return to Sydney in 2013 and the state government says the musical will make the city a tourist magnet.

The stage show finished in Sydney in 2005 after running for two years and playing to 1.35 million people.

It will reopen at the Capitol Theatre in December next year.

Tourism minister George Souris said a new generation of young families is ready to enjoy the musical.

“It’s the most successful musical in the world and it exceeded all expectation in 2003,” he told reporters in Sydney on Tuesday.

Mr Souris said the 2013 production was expected to attract 500,000 visitors from interstate and overseas, generating $36 million for NSW.

He said visitors who came to watch the show would also take part in other activities in the city.

“If they came right now, they’d go to the Picasso exhibition, they’d go to the Harry Potter exhibition, they would have enjoyed the Festival of Sydney,” Mr Souris said.

“They may have even enjoyed the cricket season against India.

“All of that drives tourism and the importance of having a premier run in your state cannot be overestimated.”

Thomas Schumacher, Disney’s president of theatrical productions, said although the musical had premiered in 1997, enormous demand for it continues worldwide.

“It’s still going to be new to the audience that see it for the first time,” Mr Schumacher told reporters via videolink from New York.

“Then of course there’s the people that want to come back to it.

“We get many more requests around the world for productions of The Lion King that we can’t accommodate or in fact are interested in accommodating.”

Since opening in America in 1997, there have been 19 production of the musical around the world.

It’s estimated to have been seen by 63 million people and grossed more than $4.7 billion.

The Sydney production is predicted to run for about eight months.

Cirque du Soleil - 2012 Shows Australia

Cirque du Soleil returns to Australia with a spectacular new production for the whole family, presented under the blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top).

OVO is a headlong rush into a colourful eco-system teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion.

When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives.

It's love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye - and the feeling is mutual.

The cast of OVO is comprised of 54 performing artists from 16 countries specializing in many acrobatic acts. One highlight of OVO is the stunning flying trapeze act, in which six flyers soar 40 feet in the air, making this the biggest act of its kind to ever be presented under a big top by Cirque du Soleil. It combines many circus disciplines, including banquine, Russian swing and swinging chair. The finale features 20 artists running, jumping and leaping up a 24-foot vertical wall.

OVO is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day, the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew.
br> OVO is written and directed by Deborah Colker.
